Wispr Flow Expands Aggressively Into India’s Growing Voice AI Market

Last Updated: May 11, 2026By

AI powered voice software startup Wispr is intensifying its expansion into India, betting that the country’s growing reliance on voice communication will create major opportunities for artificial intelligence driven products despite significant language and monetization challenges.

The Bay Area based company, known for its Wispr Flow voice input platform, says India has become its fastest growing market globally. The startup recently launched Hinglish support, a blend of Hindi and English commonly spoken across the country, while also expanding its services to Android devices after first launching on Mac and Windows systems before arriving on iOS in 2025.

Co founder and Chief Executive Officer Tanay Kothari said the company initially attracted professionals such as engineers and managers but is now witnessing broader adoption among students and older users introduced to the technology by younger family members. According to Kothari, Indian users are increasingly using the app for personal communication through platforms like WhatsApp and social media applications where switching between Hindi and English is common.

Wispr Flow reportedly experienced rapid growth in India earlier this year, expanding by nearly 60 percent month over month before accelerating to approximately 100 percent growth following a major India focused launch campaign. The company also introduced lower local pricing, offering annual plans at around ₹320 per month, significantly cheaper than its standard global subscription pricing.

Despite the strong user growth, analysts note that India remains a difficult market for voice AI technology. Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research described India as the “ultimate stress test” for voice AI due to its linguistic diversity, varying accents, and contextual differences that complicate speech recognition systems.

Data from Sensor Tower showed Wispr Flow was downloaded more than 2.5 million times globally between October 2025 and April 2026, with India accounting for 14 percent of total installs. However, India generated only about 2 percent of the company’s in app purchase revenue during the same period, reflecting the continuing challenge of monetizing AI services in price sensitive markets.

Wispr Flow has also strengthened its local presence by appointing Nimisha Mehta to oversee its India operations. The company plans to increase its workforce in the country to about 30 employees over the next year as it pushes toward multilingual expansion and wider consumer adoption across India.
