Thomson Reuters Revenue Grows 10 Per Cent as AI Spending Pressures Shares

Last Updated: November 5, 2026By

Thomson Reuters has reported strong third-quarter revenue growth, although its shares declined as investors expressed concerns about the financial impact of increased artificial intelligence investments. The company’s results demonstrate the growing importance of AI in the legal, tax, accounting and information services industries.

The Toronto-based company recorded revenue of $1.83 billion for the third quarter, representing a 10 per cent increase compared with the previous year. Its adjusted earnings per share reached 81 cents, while organic revenue growth also increased by 10 per cent.

Despite the positive results, the company’s shares fell as investors focused on rising expenses associated with developing and expanding AI-powered products. The increased spending has raised questions about whether the company can maintain its historical profit margins.

Thomson Reuters is investing in AI tools such as CoCounsel Legal, which helps lawyers conduct research, prepare documents and complete professional tasks. The company is also developing AI applications for tax and accounting professionals as it seeks to expand its digital services.

The company raised its full-year organic revenue growth outlook to between 8.5 and 9 per cent. However, its ability to turn AI investments into sustainable, high-margin revenue will remain a major consideration for investors.
