Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to have dinner with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, marking the first one on one meeting between the two leaders. 

The meeting comes shortly after Amodei was featured in a Saturday Night Live sketch that mocked his public warnings about the risks associated with artificial intelligence.

Amodei and Trump have recently taken different positions on the future development of artificial intelligence. 

Amodei has called for greater caution and stronger safeguards around advanced AI, while Trump has dismissed some of the criticism surrounding the technology and promoted the development of what he describes as “super intelligence.”

Anthropic’s relationship with the Trump administration has also been complicated. Earlier this year, the Pentagon designated the company as a supply chain risk following disagreements over the safeguards Anthropic sought to place on the use of its technology. 

Anthropic has challenged the designation in court, while some other officials within the administration have maintained a more cooperative relationship with the company.

The dinner could provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss AI development, national security and the growing debate over how governments should regulate increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems.
