Amazon Restructures Podcast Business to Drive Commerce- Growth
Amazon has significantly reshaped its podcasting operations over the past six months, signaling a strategic pivot toward deeper monetization.
The move follows a round of layoffs in August 2025 that saw more than 100 employees cut from its podcast studio, Wondery.
Although the company maintained that Wondery would remain operational, the restructuring has dramatically altered how its podcast ecosystem functions.
The company has redistributed its audio-focused content under Audible, while launching a new division known as Creator Services. This unit is tasked with managing high-profile, on-camera talent and expanding their content into broader commercial ecosystems. Notable personalities involved include Dax Shepard, Keke Palmer, and the Kelce brothers.
A key example of this strategy is the expansion of the “New Heights” podcast brand. Amazon has developed a dedicated hub where fans can access merchandise, stream related documentaries, and purchase curated products tied to the show’s themes.
This integrated approach reflects a broader effort to merge entertainment with e-commerce. According to company executives, the goal is to blend content creation with retail opportunities, effectively turning podcasts into multi-channel revenue platforms.
While other creators are exploring similar models, Amazon’s approach stands out for the scale of its internal overhaul to achieve this transformation.
Industry observers note that this aggressive restructuring underscores Amazon’s ambition to dominate not just content distribution but also the commercial ecosystems surrounding digital media.
The success of this model could redefine how podcasts generate revenue in the years ahead.
