Warner Bros. Discovery has filed a lawsuit accusing Amazon of unlawfully encouraging several of its executives to leave the company before the expiration of their employment contracts.

The lawsuit alleges that Amazon deliberately targeted employees who remained under legally binding agreements with Warner Bros., including senior marketing executive Pia Barlow, who recently accepted a position with Amazon MGM Studios despite reportedly being contracted until October 2027.

According to Warner Bros., Amazon knowingly interfered with existing contractual relationships and assured employees that it would support them legally should disputes arise.

The media company argues that such actions amount to unfair competition and breach of established employment agreements.

The legal action also references another senior Warner Bros. executive who was allegedly approached by Amazon but ultimately chose to remain with the company.

Warner Bros. claims these recruitment efforts demonstrate a deliberate attempt to weaken its workforce by targeting key personnel.

The case is expected to revive debate over the enforceability of fixed-term employment contracts under California law, where restrictions on employee mobility have long been the subject of legal and policy discussions. Amazon MGM Studios has declined to comment on the allegations.
