Trump Unveils New Super Intelligence Force
President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new Super Intelligence Force, a federal initiative designed to coordinate the United States’ efforts to maintain its leadership in artificial intelligence and what his administration refers to as super intelligence.
Trump said the initiative would be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton alongside other senior members of his administration.
Trump said the force would coordinate the federal government’s efforts to ensure that the United States remains a global leader in super intelligence.
He described the technology as potentially more significant than the Industrial Revolution and the internet, while arguing that American leadership would help protect national interests and improve the lives of citizens.
The announcement follows Trump’s earlier promise to establish an AI force and appoint an AI czar. His administration has since promoted the term “super intelligence” as part of its approach to artificial intelligence.
The new initiative reflects the administration’s broader effort to strengthen America’s position in the rapidly developing global AI race.
Clayton is expected to chair the Super Intelligence Force, with Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor serving as vice chairs.
The force reportedly has 120 days to produce a report examining the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence.
The task force is also expected to develop plans for responding to threats enabled by super intelligence while avoiding excessive regulation that could restrict innovation and competition.
Clayton has previously argued that the United States should not retreat from artificial intelligence development while countries such as China continue to advance.
He has described the possibility of losing technological leadership as one of the major risks facing the United States
