Meta Enables AI Agents to Manage WhatsApp Business Setup

Last Updated: September 17, 2026By

Meta has introduced a new tool that allows artificial intelligence agents to handle several tasks involved in setting up and managing WhatsApp Business accounts.

The company announced the move alongside its new AI focused subscription plans as it expands the use of AI agents across its platforms.

The new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that connects AI coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT with the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Instead of manually moving between Meta’s Developer Console, Business Manager, API documentation and coding tools, developers can describe what they want the AI agent to accomplish.

The AI agent can perform several setup tasks, including creating a WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, registering the account for Cloud API access and checking the business terms of service.

Businesses can also ask the agent to create or modify messaging templates, test messages and webhooks, and monitor issues involving payments, business verification and other configuration requirements.

Meta said its Social Technologies MCP can also work alongside the new tool by helping developers discover API endpoints, search documentation and troubleshoot errors.

The move reflects a broader industry effort by technology companies to make their platforms accessible to AI agents capable of completing routine technical and administrative tasks.
