Google Warns Financial Firms About Rising Voice Phishing Attacks
Google is warning banks and other financial institutions about a growing wave of voice phishing attacks targeting employees and businesses.
The company says cybercriminals are increasingly using phone calls to impersonate trusted contacts and convince victims to reveal sensitive information or grant access to internal systems.
Unlike traditional phishing emails, voice phishing, often called “vishing”, relies on social engineering to manipulate victims into making security mistakes.
Google’s cybersecurity team noted that attackers are becoming more sophisticated by combining phone calls with emails and text messages to make their scams appear legitimate.
Financial institutions have been advised to strengthen employee awareness through regular cybersecurity training and to verify unexpected requests before sharing confidential information or approving transactions.
Security experts say organizations should also implement stronger authentication methods, including multi-factor authentication, to reduce the risk of unauthorized access even if attackers obtain login credentials.
The warning comes as cyberattacks continue to evolve, with criminals increasingly targeting employees rather than technical vulnerabilities to gain access to company networks.
Businesses are encouraged to review their security procedures and ensure staff know how to identify and report suspicious communications.
Cybersecurity professionals believe human awareness remains one of the strongest defenses against phishing attacks despite advances in security technology.
