Google Introduces AI Disclosure Labels for Online Advertisements

Last Updated: July 12, 2026By

Google has announced a new transparency feature that will inform users when advertisements have been created or modified using artificial intelligence.

The initiative is intended to help consumers better understand how digital advertising content is produced as AI-generated images and marketing materials become increasingly common.

The new feature will appear within Google’s “My Ad Center,” accessible through the information menu available on advertisements displayed across Google Search, YouTube and Google Discover.

Users will now see an option titled “How this ad was made,” which will indicate whether artificial intelligence played a role in creating or editing the advertisement.

Google explained that advertisements generated through its own AI-powered advertising tools will automatically receive the disclosure label.
However, advertisers using external AI software will be responsible for indicating whether artificial intelligence was involved during the creation process.

The company noted that the new measure is designed to improve transparency rather than restrict the use of AI in advertising.
Google continues to prohibit deceptive advertising practices but acknowledges that AI-generated content can still be used appropriately when properly disclosed to consumers.

The rollout reflects growing efforts across the technology industry to increase transparency around AI-generated content.
As artificial intelligence becomes more widely adopted in digital marketing, disclosure measures are expected to play a greater role in helping consumers distinguish between traditional and AI-assisted advertising materials.
