Robotics company Generalist has reportedly reached a valuation of $3 billion after securing additional investment led by venture capital firm 8VC.
People familiar with the transaction said the company raised nearly $200 million in fresh funding, extending an earlier financing round and bringing the total amount raised in that round to approximately $600 million.

The company had previously announced a $400 million Series B investment led by Radical Ventures at a valuation of $2 billion.
The latest financing therefore represents a significant increase in Generalist’s valuation as investors continue to show strong interest in artificial intelligence and robotics.

Generalist and 8VC have not publicly commented on the reported transaction.

Generalist was established in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence and Andy Zeng, together with former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry. The startup has attracted investment from several major technology and venture capital names, including Nvidia, Union Square Ventures, Bezos Expeditions, Radical Ventures and 8VC, as well as prominent artificial intelligence researcher Fei Fei Li.

The company is developing an artificial intelligence foundation model intended to operate across different types of robots.

Generalist recently introduced its Gen 1.5 model, which it says can help robots learn new tasks from very short video demonstrations.

The startup is working with selected customers and using their feedback to improve the technology for practical applications.

Generalist is entering an increasingly competitive robotics market that includes companies such as Physical Intelligence, Skild AI and Genesis AI.
Investors are betting that advances in artificial intelligence could eventually produce robots capable of performing a wide range of tasks without requiring separate training for every activity.

However, researchers and investors caution that developing truly general purpose robotics systems remains a major technical challenge and could still take several years.
