Elon Musk has proposed a potential Hyperloop transportation system between Austin and San Antonio, saying the project could eventually reduce travel time between the two Texas cities to less than 30 minutes. 

Musk said his turnnelling company, The Boring Company, is working on what he described as a “simple precursor Hyperloop” connecting the two cities.

The Boring Company also expressed interest in the proposed infrastructure project, saying it would be excited and honoured to participate in its construction. 

The proposal adds to the company’s broader ambitions of using underground transportation systems to improve mobility in major cities.

However, several projects previously announced by The Boring Company have not been completed. The company has proposed tunnel projects in cities including Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as a potential connection between New York City and Washington, D.C. 

It currently operates a transportation system using tunnels and surface routes in Las Vegas and recently raised $3 billion in funding led by the United Arab Emirates.

Musk’s comments about the Austin San Antonio proposal came in response to an AI generated video depicting a futuristic world involving human colonies on other planets.

Musk shared the video and said it represented the future he wanted to help create. His comments have renewed discussion about his long term vision for transportation, technology and futuristic infrastructure.
