Artificial-intelligence company Anthropic is planning to commit at least $518 billion to AI infrastructure over the next decade through agreements with major technology companies, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.

The planned spending includes more than $111 billion with Alphabet’s Google, $110 billion with Amazon and $31.4 billion with Microsoft.

Anthropic also has major equipment-related obligations involving semiconductor company Broadcom.

About 80 percent of the planned spending is described as non-cancelable or requiring payment regardless of how much computing capacity Anthropic actually uses.

The company says access to computing power is becoming one of the biggest constraints on the development of advanced AI.

Anthropic is also developing relationships with Nvidia and AMD.

Its agreements with xAI could involve up to $84.5 billion in spending on Nvidia-based computing capacity, while AMD has agreed to purchase up to $5 billion of Anthropic stock and provide more than $20 billion in computing capacity.

The scale of these commitments shows how much money is being directed toward AI infrastructure.

Anthropic is also moving from relying primarily on cloud providers toward building and leasing more of its own infrastructure, while acknowledging the risks of depending on companies that can simultaneously be investors, suppliers and competitors.
