AI Cloud Company Lambda Raises $1 Billion in Debt for Chip Expansion
Artificial intelligence cloud provider Lambda has secured $1 billion in private debt financing to support the purchase of Nvidia chips that will be deployed for major customers, including Microsoft.
The company operates by acquiring high-performance computing hardware and leasing access to the infrastructure to businesses requiring large amounts of AI processing power.
The financing arrangement reflects Lambda’s confidence that it can rapidly deploy the new chips and begin generating sufficient revenue to repay the short-term debt.
The agreement was reportedly arranged with support from JP Morgan Chase and represents another major investment in the growing demand for AI computing infrastructure.
Lambda has increasingly relied on debt financing to expand its graphics processing unit capacity.
Earlier this year, the company secured additional credit facilities and loans worth billions of dollars to support deployments involving Nvidia’s latest generation of AI chips.
The new funding comes as Lambda is also reportedly exploring a major pre-initial public offering investment round. The company previously raised significant venture capital funding and has continued to attract investors seeking exposure to the expanding market for AI data centres and cloud computing services.
Lambda’s strategy reflects a wider trend across the technology sector, where companies and financial institutions are borrowing heavily to fund artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Global investment in AI-related facilities, chips and computing capacity has accelerated sharply as businesses compete to meet growing demand for generative AI services.
