Adobe has expanded the capabilities of its experimental iPhone camera application, Project Indigo, by introducing artificial intelligence tools that analyze photographs and provide personalized editing recommendations.

The update is designed to help users improve both their photography skills and editing workflow. One of the new features offers detailed critiques of images by evaluating composition, lighting, colour balance, and emotional impact.

Another provides suggestions for retaking photographs by recommending adjustments to framing, exposure, and distracting objects within the scene.
The application also introduces advanced object removal technology that automatically identifies unwanted items such as background people, vehicles, wires, fences, rubbish, and other visual distractions.

Users can also describe custom objects they want removed, producing cleaner and more natural looking images. Additional tools allow photographers to create artificial depth of field effects, producing a blurred background similar to that of professional cameras.

Adobe has also included artistic style filters that transform photographs into watercolour, monochrome, pen and ink, and other creative visual styles.
Many of the experimental features are powered by Google’s Gemini based artificial intelligence technology, although Adobe says its own Firefly model may support future updates.

The new capabilities are currently being tested with a limited number of users before a possible wider release.
