Amazon Prepares to Launch Satellite Internet Service Later This Year

Last Updated: July 5, 2026By

Amazon has announced that it expects to begin offering internet services through its Project Kuiper satellite network before the end of 2026.

The company recently completed another successful satellite launch, bringing the number of satellites in orbit to nearly 400.

The milestone marks significant progress in Amazon’s effort to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink in the rapidly growing satellite broadband industry.

Project Kuiper is designed to provide high-speed internet to underserved and remote communities around the world.

Amazon says the service will initially launch in selected regions before expanding globally as more satellites are deployed.

The company has committed billions of dollars to the initiative, making it one of its largest long-term investments outside its core e-commerce business.

The expansion places Amazon in direct competition with established satellite internet providers, particularly Starlink, which already serves millions of customers worldwide.

Analysts say the competition could drive innovation while helping reduce internet costs for consumers and businesses.

Project Kuiper is also expected to strengthen Amazon Web Services by providing cloud connectivity solutions for governments, enterprises and rural communities.

Executives believe satellite communications will become an increasingly important part of the company’s technology ecosystem.

Industry experts say the commercial satellite market is entering a new phase of rapid expansion as companies invest heavily in global connectivity.

Amazon’s entry is expected to reshape competition in the sector over the coming years.
