Nordic Startup Scene Surges as Founders Take Bolder Risks

Last Updated: November 27, 2025By

In the past decade, the Nordic tech landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation. Once a region where securing €1 million in Copenhagen could make headlines, the North has now become a breeding ground for global-scale companies — including rising giant Lovable, which astonishingly recorded $200 million in revenue within just a year of launching.

Industry veteran Dennis Green-Lieber, founder of the AI-driven customer intelligence platform Propane, has observed this evolution firsthand over the last 15 years. According to him, the Nordic model — particularly its strong social safety net — has empowered founders to take bigger, bolder risks without endangering their personal stability. The result, he says, is a startup ecosystem now accelerating at a pace that rivals, and in some ways surpasses, Silicon Valley.

Green-Lieber shared these insights in a conversation with TechCrunch’s Equity podcast host, Dominic-Madori Davis. Their discussion explored the unique characteristics of the Nordic ecosystem, including its collaborative culture, its openness to experimentation, and its promising deep-tech frontier.
