Tea, an application that enables women to submit anonymous comments regarding males they have purportedly dated, disclosed that it had experienced a data breach.
The hackers have gained access to 72,000 images.
The company stated that this figure encompasses 13,000 photographs and photo IDs submitted for account verification, as well as 59,000 images from posts, remarks, and direct messages.
Tea also stated that only users who registered prior to February 2024 were affected, and that no emails or phone numbers were disclosed.
“We are working around the clock to secure our systems and have engaged third-party cybersecurity experts,” the company stated. “We have resolved the data issue and implemented supplementary security measures at this time.”
Following the discovery of an exposed database, 4chan users claimed to be sharing personal data and images from Tea, according to 404 Media.
The Tea app appeared to attain viral popularity this week, which is when the breach occurred.
It remained at the top of the free app listings in Apple’s App Store as of Saturday morning.
