Afreximbank, in collaboration with the PJ Patterson Institute, has announced the launch of pilot artificial intelligence innovation hubs across Africa and the Caribbean.
The initiative is aimed at fostering industrial transformation and creating new economic opportunities through technology.
The hubs, which will open in select cities including Abuja, Nigeria, will focus on AI research, entrepreneurship, and education. They aim to build local expertise and drive economic diversification in regions often left behind in the global tech race.
This project is part of a larger vision to ensure that emerging economies are not just consumers of technology but also creators. By providing access to AI tools and knowledge, the hubs will support industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and finance.
Political and academic leaders attending the launch in Abuja highlighted the need for strategic investment and collaboration. They stressed that AI could help solve pressing social challenges if implemented responsibly.
With this initiative, Africa and the Caribbean are taking important steps toward closing the global digital divide and fostering inclusive growth.
