An OpenAI executive said at Google’s antitrust trial this week that OpenAI would consider acquiring Google’s Chrome browser if it were offered for sale.
Nick Turley, the head of ChatGPT, said at a court hearing on Tuesday that the acquisition of Chrome will enable OpenAI to “provide an exceptional experience” and “immerse users in the concept of an AI-first [browser],” according to Bloomberg.
Turley was summoned by the Justice Department to provide testimony in a trial focused on identifying the business practices Google must amend after a judicial ruling that the corporation had monopolized the internet search industry.
The Justice Department has requested that Google be compelled to divest Chrome.
OpenAI has allegedly contemplated developing a web browser to rival Chrome. The startup employed former Google workers Ben Goodger and Darin Fisher, who contributed to the initial Chrome project, few months ago.
