The decentralized social network Bluesky announced on Monday that it now permits videos that are up to three minutes in length.

In September, the platform implemented video support, which was restricted to a 60-second duration.

Bluesky is aligning its user experience with that of its competitors, X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads, by implementing the new expanded time limit.

Threads permits users to upload videos that are up to five minutes in duration, while X permits nonpaying users to upload videos that are up to two minutes and 20 seconds in length.

The modification is also advantageous for the applications that are striving to serve as the “TikTok for Bluesky,” including Skylight and Bluescreen.

The developers of these applications are currently in the process of integrating a video experience into Bluesky. This may be achieved by creating a Bluesky client that is video-centric or by creating a new app that is entirely based on the same AT Protocol as Bluesky.

The extended time limit enables them to provide a TikTok alternative that is more closely aligned with the popular short-form video app, which enables users to share videos that are up to 10 minutes in length.

Bluesky has also disclosed the inclusion of a new “Chat requests” interface, which enables users to navigate messages from unknown users.

After receiving a direct message request, users are able to approve or decline the conversation by accessing this new interface.

Furthermore, Bluesky now enables users to mute accounts fast by selecting the “Mute account” option from the three-dot menu on a post.

Additionally, the social network has implemented enhanced tablet-friendly web layouts and enhanced the moderation reporting process.
