On Wednesday, YouTube introduced a new premium subscription tier dubbed Premium Lite to enable users to view videos without advertisements for a monthly fee of $7.99.
YouTube Lite will enable customers to view videos from a variety of verticals, including gaming, fashion, beauty, culinary, news, and more, without any advertisements. However, advertisements will be displayed on music content and music videos.
The new tier, which is an entry-level subscription, will not provide the same benefits as the full YouTube Premium ($13.99 per month) subscription, such as the ability to view music videos ad-free, background play, or download the videos.
Bloomberg disclosed the latest addition to YouTube’s subscription offerings last month.
YouTube has announced that it has been tested in Thailand, Germany, and Australia, and it will now be accessible to users in the United States. In the upcoming weeks, the subscription will be made available to all consumers in the pilot markets.
YouTube has announced that it will introduce Premium Lite to additional markets in the coming months, initially as pilot programs.
The expansion is a strategy by which YouTube can increase its revenue from subscriptions, which could potentially support the businesses of creators.
The new Lite tier may be the most logical choice for younger viewers, who have largely supplanted their TV time with online video viewing on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube.
The subscription will enhance the appeal of viewing videos on the large screen in the living room by reducing the number of annoying advertisements.
YouTube has recently announced that the majority of its video viewing in the United States is now occurring on televisions, surpassing mobile devices and desktops.
The company stated that YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscriptions, which include trials, currently have a combined user base of more than 125 million individuals worldwide.
