Wingu Africa, a prominent data center operator in East Africa, has secured a $60 million investment to improve its carrier-neutral data infrastructure in the region.

The fundraising initiative, which is being led by RMB (Rand Merchant Bank), is intended to meet the growing demand for digital services in Kenya, Tanzania, and Djibouti.

Wingu Africa, which was founded in 2011, oversees state-of-the-art facilities that serve financial institutions, governmental entities, cloud service providers, and telecommunications companies.

The new capital will enable the expansion of underwater cable landing sites in coastal communities and the construction of increased capacity in Nairobi.

The company has become a fundamental component of digital transformation in East Africa, helping clients to achieve regulatory compliance, enhance data security, and minimize latency.

The demand for regional hosting has increased as Africa adopts cloud computing, local data sovereignty, and AI services.
Wingu’s expansion is considered a critical component of Africa’s ongoing digital autonomy.

The company aims to capitalize on this funding to improve Africa’s standing in the global data economy, while simultaneously fostering local innovation, employment creation, and secure internet access.
