The company representative of Unity, the game engine developer, has verified to the media that Steve Collins, the CTO, is resigning.

He joined Unity six months ago after serving as the Chief Technology Officer of King, the mobile gaming company responsible for Candy Crush.

Unity maintains that Collins unilaterally terminated his employment with the organization.

A company representative confirmed that Steve Collins has opted to depart Unity for personal reasons. “We are appreciative of his contributions.”

We are confident that our world-class technology team will continue to advance the strategy as we continue our transformation.

Over the past few years, Unity has encountered significant internal conflict.

The developer community was incensed by the company’s controversial alterations to its pricing model in fall 2023.

Despite the fact that some of these modifications were reversed, the company’s CEO, John Riccitiello, resigned as a consequence.

Unity terminated 1,800 positions, which constituted 25% of its workforce, several months later.

Despite the fact that Unity has since distanced itself from those events, certain game developers continue to harbor reservations regarding the company.

Unity’s challenges are not inherently associated with Collins’ departure; however, an additional executive restructuring could prove disruptive.
