President Donald Trump has stated that an agreement with ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to sell the app will be finalized prior to the April 5 deadline, reuters has reported.
“We have a significant number of potential buyers,” Trump informed reporters.
“TikTok is a subject of great interest.” He further stated, “I would like to see TikTok continue to exist.”
In January, Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office that extended the deadline for the TikTok ban to April 5.
On Friday, Reuters reported that Blackstone, a private equity firm, is considering acquiring a minor stake in TikTok’s U.S. operations.
The company is contemplating the possibility of collaborating with ByteDance’s current non-Chinese shareholders, which are Susquehanna International Group and General Atlantic, to raise additional capital in order to compete for TikTok’s U.S. operations.
The firm has emerged as the leading contender in negotiations for a TikTok agreement.
President Trump has previously indicated that he is amenable to extending the deadline if a compromise is not reached.
