South Africa to Partner Private Sector to Revitalize Rail Network
The South African government is actively seeking private sector investment to revitalize the nation’s ailing cargo train infrastructure, in collaboration with state-owned logistics company Transnet.
A Request for Information (RFI) has been issued with the objective of focusing on significant bulk mineral export routes, such as the Northern Cape to Saldanha and Northern Cape to Nelson Mandela Bay routes.
The network has encountered numerous challenges, such as inadequate maintenance, equipment shortages, and cable larceny.
Following the RFI procedure, official requests for proposals are anticipated in August.
