Sam Altman’s biometric identity startup, “World,” formerly known as Worldcoin, has officially launched in the United States.
The company plans to deploy its Orb biometric scanners in cities such as Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco.
These devices will be available in standalone World Spaces and select partner locations, including Razer’s retail stores.
World’s expansion into the U.S. market aims to leverage the country’s leadership in artificial intelligence and address the growing need for secure identity verification.
The company has partnered with Visa for payments and Match Group for identity verification on platforms like Tinder, broadening the use of Worldcoin across various services.
World has scanned and verified 12 million people globally, highlighting the platform’s rapid growth and the increasing demand for digital identity solutions.
The launch includes a new, smaller version of the Orb, the “Orb Mini,” which is more portable and resembles a smartphone, aiming to provide a secure and decentralized form of identity verification.
