Since the upgraded image generator was introduced in ChatGPT on May 25, more than 700 million images have been generated by more than 130 million users, according to Brad Lightcap, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations and global deployment at OpenAI.
One of the most successful product introductions in the history of OpenAI is the new image-generation feature.
“We are grateful for your patience as we endeavor to accommodate all individuals,” Lightcap stated in a post on X on Thursday. “The team continues to operate continuously.”
India is currently the fastest-growing ChatGPT market, according to Lightcap.
The controversial capability of OpenAI’s new image generator to generate realistic Ghibli-style images, which was made available to all ChatGPT users earlier this week, has gone viral.
OpenAI has seen a divided benefit in the form of millions of new ChatGPT signups, which has also significantly strained the company’s capacity.
The image generator’s popularity has resulted in product delays and temporary service degradations, as OpenAI attempts to expand its infrastructure to accommodate the increased demand, according to CEO Sam Altman.
