The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) has launched the 2025 edition of its Space-Tech Innovation Accelerator in Abuja.

This program aims to empower startups that are developing satellite-driven solutions for agriculture, education, climate, infrastructure, and healthcare sectors.

Building on the momentum from last year’s pilot, which received over 280 applications, this new edition is designed to foster homegrown innovation in space-related technologies.

The launch event brought together entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, and academia to witness what is seen as a turning point in Nigeria’s tech evolution.

NigComSat emphasized that the program isn’t just about technical training; it’s about creating viable businesses that address national and continental challenges.

Participants will benefit from mentorship, technical support, investor matchmaking, and pilot opportunities.

A unique feature of this year’s program is its intentional focus on inclusivity, especially gender balance.

NigComSat has committed to supporting more women-led startups and applicants from rural communities. According to the organizers, this is part of a deliberate effort to build an innovation ecosystem that reflects Nigeria’s diverse population.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy described the Accelerator as a “launchpad for a generation of African engineers, scientists, and visionaries who will compete globally.”

He also praised the collaboration between public and private sectors in ensuring that the initiative is well-resourced and sustainable.

Looking forward, NigComSat hopes to position Nigeria as a regional leader in satellite innovation.

The broader vision is to reduce dependence on foreign technology, create jobs, and offer African-built solutions to African problems, all while contributing to national security and development.
