The Nigerian government has reiterated its objective to equip 20 million young Nigerians with digital and entrepreneurial skills by 2030.
In collaboration with UNICEF, this ambitious initiative is being executed within the Generation Unlimited Nigeria (GenU 9JA) framework.
The initiative provides individuals aged 10 to 24 with the opportunity to participate in coding boot camps, entrepreneurial training, employment placement opportunities, and digital literacy resources.
It is a component of Nigeria’s national Digital Economy Policy, which aims to turn the country into a regional center for digital talent in Africa.
UNICEF has commended Nigeria’s initiative, describing it as one of the most ambitious digital reforms aimed at young people in the world.
Private sector partners, including edtech companies, telecommunications companies, and recruitment agencies, will provide mentorship, infrastructure, and content as part of the partnership.
The endeavor is widely regarded as essential, not only for Nigeria but also for the future workforce preparation of the continent, as the number of young people in Africa is anticipated to triple by 2050.
