Morocco has announced the construction of a cutting-edge supercomputing data center powered entirely by renewable energy, which is expected to create 600 new jobs.

The project, led by Naver, NVIDIA, Nexus Core Systems, and Lloyd Capital, is poised to revolutionize data infrastructure in North Africa by supporting advanced computing needs for industries like logistics, healthcare, education, and fintech.

Set to open in late 2025, the 40-megawatt facility will be located in the Casablanca region and will rely on the country’s abundant solar and wind energy.

The center is expected to serve as a digital gateway for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, enabling fast and secure data processing for a wide array of users.

Beyond its tech features, the center promises strong economic impact as over 600 jobs will be created during construction and operations.

A dedicated training academy will also help to equip young Moroccans with the skills to manage and maintain the infrastructure.

Local universities will also be offered partnerships to foster innovation and research.

Government officials hailed the development as a critical milestone in Morocco’s digital transformation journey.

“This facility will make us a serious player in the global digital economy,” said the Minister of Industry. The country has been actively investing in green energy and now wants to marry that strength with tech infrastructure.

As Morocco positions itself as a regional tech leader, the data center represents a powerful example of sustainable development.

By combining green energy and high-performance computing, the country is showing how Africa can leapfrog into the future while staying rooted in local resources and talent.
