On May 27th of this year, Microsoft will terminate support for its Remote Desktop application for Windows.
As a result, individuals who utilize the Remote Desktop application to establish connections to Microsoft Dev Box, Azure Virtual Desktop, or Windows 365 machines will be required to switch to the Windows application.
Multimonitor support, dynamic display resolutions, and effortless access to cloud PCs and virtual desktops are all features of the new Windows app, which was released in September.
Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Connection application, which has been present in Windows for over two decades, is not to be confounded with the current Remote Desktop application.
Microsoft has stated that this application will persist in Windows 11 beyond May 27th and can still be utilized to establish connections to computers until the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is integrated into the Windows application.
“Despite Microsoft’s long-term goal of transitioning Windows entirely to the cloud to facilitate enhanced AI-powered services and seamless digital roaming, the Windows app is currently only accessible to users with a Microsoft account associated with their work or school,” the company states.
