As concerns about Google’s capacity to defend its search engine stronghold in the AI era continue to grow, the company is incorporating more AI capabilities into Search.
At its I/O developer conference on Tuesday, the tech giant announced the launch of AI Mode, describing it as the “most powerful AI search” with multimodal capabilities and sophisticated reasoning.
The business claims that it began testing AI Mode earlier this year.
It has the ability to “go deeper through follow-up questions” and offer links to site findings.
In the coming weeks, Google stated, the new feature will have its own tab on Search and in the search bar of the Google app.
Google introduced AI Overviews in Search a year prior to the release of the new AI function.
Google referred to AI Overviews as “one of the most successful launches in Search in the past decade” in a blog post published on Tuesday.
The business claims that more individuals used Search as a result of the functionality, especially for “complex, longer, and multimodal questions.”
Google stated that its biggest regions, such as the U.S. and India, witnessed a more than 10% rise in the number of searches that included AI Overviews.
“As people use AI Overviews, we see they’re happier with their results, and they search more often,” the company claimed.
Concerns about how AI-powered search tools from AI startups like OpenAI and Perplexity would affect the tech giant’s search business are mounting, which is why Google is implementing AI capabilities in Search.
For instance, ChatGPT has the ability to search the web and respond to user inquiries in a conversational manner.
