Google Expands Gemini AI Integration in Chrome to India and Other Regions

Last Updated: March 12, 2026By

Google has expanded the availability of its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant in the Chrome browser to additional regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand.

The feature allows users to interact with the AI directly through a sidebar on the desktop version of Chrome, enabling them to ask questions about content displayed on their screens and access information from services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Keep, and YouTube.

The rollout is part of Google’s ongoing effort to integrate AI tools more deeply into everyday browsing experiences.

The company also announced expanded language support as part of the update. In addition to English, Gemini in Chrome will now support several widely spoken languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil.

This move is expected to make the feature more accessible to a broader audience, particularly in multilingual regions such as India.

Originally introduced in the United States last September through a floating window interface, Gemini has gradually evolved into a more integrated sidebar tool.

Users who gain access to the feature will notice an “Ask Gemini” icon on the Chrome tab bar. By clicking the icon, they can ask the assistant to summarize webpages, generate quizzes from online content, or answer questions related to what they are viewing.

Google said the assistant can also operate across multiple browser tabs, allowing users to compare information from different pages.

This could be particularly helpful for activities such as comparing products before purchasing or reviewing travel options.

Gemini can also connect with several Google services including Maps and Calendar to provide contextual assistance, such as composing emails, summarizing YouTube videos, or organizing daily schedules.

The company noted that support for Gemini will also be introduced in Chrome for iOS in India, where users will find the feature through the address bar’s page tools icon.

However, some advanced capabilities, such as agent-like features that can complete tasks automatically in a browser, will remain limited to certain users in the United States for now.
