Google Confirms Gmail Spam Filtering Glitch Has Been Resolved

Last Updated: January 26, 2026By

Google has confirmed that a widespread Gmail issue affecting email classification and spam detection has been fully resolved after users reported significant disruptions over the weekend.

The problem began early Saturday morning Pacific time, according to Google’s Workspace status dashboard.

Users experienced emails being misdirected into primary inboxes instead of categorized tabs such as Promotions or Social, while legitimate messages were incorrectly flagged with spam warnings.

Many users voiced frustration on social media, describing Gmail’s filters as suddenly unreliable.

Google provided updates throughout the day, acknowledging the issue and working toward a fix. By Saturday evening, the company announced that normal service had been restored for all users, though some misclassified messages may remain unchanged.

In a statement, Google said the incident caused delays in email delivery and incorrect spam labeling. The company also noted that it will publish a detailed incident analysis after completing an internal investigation.

The disruption highlights the scale and sensitivity of automated email filtering systems, which billions of users rely on daily. Google emphasized its commitment to improving reliability and transparency following the incident.
