Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has announced its intention to propose 15 new laws that are specifically designed to address technology.

As a result, Accra is currently in the process of preparing for a significant wave of digital reform.

The legislation is designed to transform the digital landscape of the nation by the conclusion of the year.

Data protection, cybersecurity, e-governance, startup funding, and digital infrastructure will be the primary focus of these new laws.

The roadmap was unveiled by Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful during a press briefing, with the goal of establishing a strong legal framework for Ghana’s long-term digital development.

She remarked, “We must legislate for the future we desire, not the one we inherited.”

It is anticipated that the proposed legislation will be subject to public consultation in the coming months, with the assistance of industry stakeholders, civil society, and technology experts.

In recent years, Ghana has experienced a significant increase in the penetration of mobile and internet devices.

The government is optimistic that these laws will establish the necessary safeguards for the responsible and inclusive expansion of the digital economy.

The announcement has been well-received by local entrepreneurs and investors, who have expressed that it enhances investor confidence and provides greater clarity.

Ghana is expected to be among the most digitally progressive nations in West Africa once the legislation is enacted, sending a strong message to the global tech community that the country is committed to innovation, prepared, and open.
