Ford to recall over 59,000 US vehicles over fire risks, NHTSA says
Ford is recalling 59,006 vehicles in the United States after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) flagged a potential fire hazard connected to engine block heaters. The agency says the heaters may crack, leak coolant, and lead to an electrical short circuit, creating a serious safety risk.
The recall affects several Ford and Lincoln models, including the Lincoln MKC, Explorer, Fusion, Bronco Sport, and Maverick, according to the NHTSA notice. As of the announcement, no accidents or injuries have yet been reported in connection with the defect.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified and asked to bring them to dealers for inspection and repair. The fix is expected to address the cracked component or replace the faulty heater to prevent coolant leaks and electrical shorts.
Ford said it is cooperating fully with regulators on the matter. The auto industry continues to face scrutiny over parts that could pose fire or safety risks, putting pressure on manufacturers to act swiftly.
Consumers with the listed models should check whether their vehicle is part of the recall and contact Ford or their dealership to schedule a repair. It’s advisable that drivers avoid using the engine block heater until the issue is resolved.
