A spokesperson for Relativity Space has verified to TechCrunch that Eric Schmidt, who served as the CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011, is currently the CEO of the rocket startup.

Schmidt also informed Relativity Space employees today that he has acquired a controlling stake in the company and made a substantial investment, as reported by the New York Times.

“Today is a significant milestone in Relativity’s history, as Eric Schmidt @ericschmidt assumes the role of CEO and provides significant financial support,” Ellis writes in a post on X.

“I am aware that there is no one more tenacious or passionate about advancing this dream. We have been collaborating to guarantee a seamless transition, and I will continue to provide my unwavering support to the team in my capacity as a Co-founder and Board member.”
