Egypt Signs $200 Million Sustainable Aviation Fuel Deal with Qatar’s Al Mana Holding

Egypt has secured a $200 million first-phase investment contract with Qatar’s Al Mana Holding to establish a plant for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) at Ain Sokhna. This deal marks a significant milestone, as it represents the first Qatari industrial investment in the SCZone.

The project, which will be developed in three phases on a 100,000 square-meter site, will produce SAF from used cooking oil. The initial phase is expected to generate 200,000 tonnes of SAF annually. Critically, Al Mana Holding has already secured a long-term contract with Shell to supply the entire output of the plant, with deliveries projected to begin by the end of 2027.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly praised the deal as a sign of positive momentum following the restoration of full diplomatic relations between Cairo and Doha in 2021. The investment supports Egypt’s strategy to attract foreign capital to address debt challenges and positions the country as a regional hub for green energy and export-oriented industrial projects.
