Ampli Energy, a new South African joint venture between insurance behemoth Discovery and energy firm Sasol, has officially launched its green power solution.

The solution provides renewable electricity to businesses on a flexible credit-based model.

The service enables businesses to reduce their fossil consumption and earn usage-based discounts by sourcing renewable energy.

Ampli, which was established in Johannesburg, has already attracted the attention of prominent organizations such as Implats and NetFlorist, as well as a small number of NGOs. “Energy wheeling” is the fundamental paradigm of the platform.

This system involves the crediting of renewable power generated off-site to consumers through the national infrastructure.

“Ampli Energy’s Head of Product, Sibusiso Dhlamini, stated that businesses are weary of the burden of load shedding, increasing costs, and carbon guilt.”

“We are providing a plug-and-play alternative that has a tangible environmental impact and real savings.”

Companies that participate in this program will be able to monitor their emissions reductions, utility impact, and receive performance-based rebates.

According to energy economists, this initiative is one of the most pragmatic green-energy pivots in South Africa to date.
Private-sector instruments such as Ampli could more effectively accelerate the adoption of renewable energy than policy alone, given the government’s encouragement of net-zero commitments.

Ampli Energy has already secured 450 MWh of capacity and has plans for expansion in mid-2026.

They may soon serve as a model for African corporations to lead in climate-responsible energy use without compromising their operations or profits.
