Chowdeck Gets $9 Million to Support Growth in Ghana

Nigeria Food delivery startup, Chowdeck, based in Lagos, has acquired $9 million in funding to start a rapid commerce strategy and grow its business in Ghana.

Y Combinator, AAIC Investment, Rebel Fund, GFR Fund, Kaleo, HoaQ, and others participated in the equity round, which was led by Novastar Ventures.

Femi Aluko, Olumide Ojo, and Lanre Yusuf founded Chowdeck in 2021, and despite the difficulties faced by many international players, the company has remained profitable.

With a network of over 20,000 riders, Chowdeck currently serves 1.5 million consumers in 11 cities throughout the two countries.
Delivery times according to the company’s logistics system average thirty minutes, and more than half of journeys in crowded cities are conducted by bicycle.

The implementation of lightning-fast delivery services through the use of hyperlocal hubs and dark stores will be made possible by the recently raised funding.

By the end of this year, the company hopes to have 40 of these stores, and by 2026, it hopes to have 500.

Without using any advertising, Chowdeck achieved 1,000 daily orders in three months after expanding to Ghana in May.

By September 2025, the company hopes to have 5,000 orders per day. Furthermore, Chowdeck just purchased Mira, a point-of-sale supplier, to improve restaurant operations.

Femi Aluko, the CEO, stated that the company aims to turn a profit within a few weeks after breaking into new areas.

According to Aluko, “this funding will supercharge our growth plans, enabling us to scale our grocery footprint, cut delivery times, attract top talent, and expand into more cities.”

Chowdeck is “building the future of logistics for African cities,” according to Brian Waswani Odhiambo, a partner at Novastar Ventures, who commended the company’s execution skills, sustainability focus, and local knowledge.

In Africa’s cutthroat food delivery sector, where firms like Jumia, Glovo, Bolt Food, and Yango have reduced their operations in some areas, the funding is a unique victory for regional players. Chowdeck secures $9 million in funding to propel expansion in Nigeria and Ghana
