Bluesky has announced three updates on Monday that would improve notifications.
These updates would enable users to personalize their experience, declutter their notification center, and reduce the number of superfluous alerts.
The upgrades consist of the capacity to receive activity notifications for specific accounts and the ability to modify notification preferences to regulate the types of alerts you receive.
For example, users have the option to receive notifications only when specific accounts respond to them.
Bluesky users can now customize notifications for a variety of interactions, such as new followers, likes, replies, mentions, quotations, and reposts, by navigating to Settings and then Notifications.
Additionally, there is a “Everything Else” option that encompasses general notifications, including verification alerts and notifications associated with the completion of a Starter Pack.
Each option can be configured to apply exclusively to the accounts they follow or to all users, and it can also be disabled entirely.
Furthermore, users can now receive notifications when someone likes their repost or reposts content they have shared.
This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who prefer to reshare posts rather than generate original content, as it enhances their level of engagement.
According to Bluesky, the “priority notifications” feature that was previously in existence has been superseded.
Users were capable of filtering notifications to ensure that they only received updates from accounts they were following.
Users must modify their reply, mention, and quotation notifications to “people you follow only” in order to accomplish the same outcome.
The new activity notification feature is similar to those found on platforms such as X and Threads, enabling users to select whether they wish to receive notifications when an account publishes new content or responds to a post.
To activate this feature, navigate to a profile and select the chime icon located adjacent to the follow option.
This will ensure that you receive notifications whenever the account publishes a new post. Additionally, a distinct option is available for reply notifications.
If users no longer desire to receive updates, they can manage their activity notifications in the settings section by removing accounts from their list.
This feature may be entirely disabled by accounts, which means that users may not be able to enable activity notifications for all accounts they desire to follow.
This is a potential concern. Additionally, account proprietors have the option to enable activity notifications for individuals they follow.
