Phoebe Gates, the daughter of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, introduced an e-commerce application earlier this year.

Phoebe and her former Stanford housemate, Sophia Kianni, collaborated to establish the e-commerce application Phia.

The platform employs artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate the comparison of prices for new and second-hand products across more than 40,000 websites.

Phia, a web browser/app, aspires to be the Booking.com of fashion by providing an immediate pricing comparison from thousands of e-commerce sites for any item, whether new or used.

She informed her father of her and Ms. Kianni’s intention to enter the e-commerce industry.

His response was, “Wow, a lot of people have tried, and there are some big players in there.” Nevertheless, he was reportedly concerned that she might request financial assistance.

Immediately following the launch of Phia’s web browser and application, Gates stated in an interview with the New York Times, “I was anticipating that she would approach and inquire.”

“I would have kept her on a short leash and conducted business reviews, which I would have found challenging,” the businessman explained of his reluctance.

“And I would have likely been excessively nice, but I questioned whether it was the appropriate course of action.”

Phoebe’s mother, Melinda Gates, whom she affectionately refers to as her “rock,” advised her that she was required to raise the capital independently. “She perceived it as a genuine opportunity for me to learn and fail,” she stated.

Melinda further elaborated on her daughter, stating that she is “the most different from me” among all of her children due to her exceptional interpersonal skills.

“When we would go on family vacations, we would find a section of the beach where we could be alone, and Phoebe would go down the beach and meet people, bringing them back to introduce them to us,” Bill Gates explained.
