App Created by Two Teenagers Attracts Over 5 Million Download
Cal AI, an application created by two teenagers, has attracted over 5 million downloads within eight months, since it was launched in May, according to report.
It is ironic that Yadegari and his co-founder, Henry Langmack, are both 18 years old and have recently completed their high school graduation.
Even more impressively, he informs TechCrunch that the app generated over $2 million in revenue last month and that the customer retention rate exceeds 30%.
Cal AI has a 4.8-star rating on the Apple App Store, with 66,000 reviews, and over 1 million downloads on Google Play, with a 4.8-star rating on nearly 75,000 reviews, despite the fact that TechCrunch was unable to verify his download and revenue claims.
Cal AI allows user to take a photograph of the food they are about to consume and allow the application to record the calories and macronutrients for you.
Perhaps Cal AI’s greatest advantage is that it was entirely developed during the era of enormous image models.
It is trained on open source food calorie and image databases from sites such as GitHub and utilizes models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and RAG to enhance accuracy.
Yadegari informs TechCrunch, “We have discovered that various models are more effective with specific foods.”
Technical challenges, such as identifying constituents from food containers or in cluttered dishes, were resolved by the founders through coding.
The outcome is an application that the developers assert is 90% accurate, which appears to be satisfactory for numerous dieters.
