Anthropic has disclosed on Wednesday that it will introduce a new Claude for Education tier in response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu initiative.

The new grade is designed for higher education and provides students, faculty, and other personnel with access to Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, as well as a few supplementary capabilities.

“Learning Mode” is a new feature in Claude Projects that is designed to assist students in the development of their own critical thinking abilities, rather than merely obtaining answers to queries. This is one component of Claude for Education.

Claude will pose inquiries to assess comprehension, emphasize the fundamental principles that underlie specific issues, and offer potentially beneficial templates for research papers, outlines, and study guides when Learning Mode is enabled.

Anthropic may increase its revenue by implementing Claude for Education.

It is reported that the organization generates $115 million in monthly revenue; however, it intends to double this figure by 2025, all the while engaging in direct competition with OpenAI in the education sector.

This launch is no exception to the historical trend of Anthropic aligning with OpenAI’s offerings.

According to Anthropic, Claude for Education is equipped with its standard messaging interface and “enterprise-grade” security and privacy controls.

Claude can be employed by university administrators to analyze enrollment trends and automate repetitive email responses to common inquiries, according to a press release that Anthropic shared with TechCrunchc prior to its introduction.

The company suggested that students can utilize Claude for Education in their studies, such as working through calculus problems with step-by-step guidance from the AI chatbot.

Anthropic has announced that it is collaborating with Instructure, a company that provides the popular education software platform Canvas, to assist universities in the integration of Claude into their systems.

Additionally, the AI startup is collaborating with Internet2, a nonprofit organization that provides cloud solutions to institutions.

According to Anthropic, it has already established “full campus agreements” with Northeastern University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Champlain College to ensure that Claude for Education is accessible to all students. Anthropic is collaborating with Northeastern’s students, faculty, and staff to develop AI-powered education tools, frameworks, and best practices for AI integration. Northeastern is a design partner.
