Alphabet-owned robotics software firm Intrinsic is being integrated into Google, marking a deeper push into physical AI.

The company will remain a distinct unit while working closely with Google DeepMind and leveraging Gemini AI models and Google Cloud infrastructure.

Intrinsic originated inside Alphabet’s X division before spinning out in 2021, joining the ranks of other X alumni such as Waymo and Wing.

Under CEO Wendy Tan White, the company rapidly expanded through acquisitions, including robotics firms Vicarious and parts of Open Robotics.

Despite layoffs in early 2023, Intrinsic launched its flagship product, Flowstate, designed to make robotics programming accessible to developers without deep domain expertise.

The company later introduced its Vision AI model and announced a joint venture with Foxconn aimed at advancing factory automation.

By bringing Intrinsic closer to Google’s core AI operations, Alphabet is signaling confidence that physical AI, applying intelligence to real-world machines will be a major frontier for AI commercialization.

Industry leaders increasingly see robotics as the next phase in translating AI breakthroughs into tangible economic impact.
