Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, will take a more prominent position in personal inboxes, as it launched its email summary cards, which will be displayed at top of emails.

Late last week, the organization disclosed that users are no longer required to select an option to summarize an email with AI.

Rather, the AI will now autonomously summarize the content as required, without the need for user interaction.

When Gemini launched in the side panel of Gmail last year, one of the features allowed users to summarize their extensive email threads, along with other tools like those to compose email messages or see suggested responses, among other things.

Google is currently implementing AI in your inbox, regardless of whether or not you wish to utilize it.

The update is another example of how AI is rapidly infiltrating the software and services people use the most, even though AI summaries aren’t always reliable.

When Apple brought out AI summaries for app push notifications, for example, the BBC found the feature made repeated errors when summarizing news headlines.

Apple ultimately decided to suspend the AI summaries for news applications.

Additionally, Google’s AI Overviews feature for Search has made numerous errors, providing inaccurate and subpar information on occasion.

Gemini will provide a concise summary of the key points of a lengthier email in the new email summary cards and will subsequently update the synopsis as responses are received.

The feature will not supplant the ability to explicitly select an icon to summarize an email or Google Notes.

This will continue to be visible as a chip at the top of the email and in the Gemini side panel of Gmail.
