Africa continent must determine its own digital destiny, this was the resounding message at the Africa Soft Power Summit.
The summit, which was held in Kigali, brought together innovators and leaders to investigate the soft power potential of Africa.
However, the majority of the discussion centered on the necessity of explicit governance frameworks and a decrease in reliance on foreign capital, particularly in relation to AI.
Organizers underscored that, although AI has the potential to expedite development, it must be implemented with equity, accountability, and inclusion in mind.
The summit established a tone that Africa will not wait to be instructed on how to participate; but will make the decision for itself as governments prepare to legislate around emerging technology.
