TikTok Expands Into Restaurant Discovery With New Must Eat Feature
TikTok has introduced a new feature called Must Eat, designed to help users discover restaurants through recommendations shared on the platform.
Announced on Oct 28, the feature brings together popular dining destinations and food recommendations from across the United States.
The launch builds on TikTok’s growing influence in food discovery, where restaurant videos frequently attract attention and encourage viewers to visit featured establishments.
The new feature uses information drawn from more than 40 million posts and comments to compile restaurant recommendations and curated dining lists.
Users can explore restaurants by city and filter their searches according to cuisine, price, ratings and location.
The aim is to make it easier for people to compare dining options and identify places that suit their preferences without relying exclusively on conventional search results.
Must Eat divides its recommendations into two categories. Everyday Eats highlights casual restaurants, local favourites and neighbourhood dining spots, while Elevated Dining focuses on establishments suited to celebrations, special occasions and more formal outings.
By organising recommendations into these categories, TikTok hopes to accommodate users looking for both affordable everyday meals and more distinctive dining experiences.
The feature also allows users to make reservations directly through TikTok at selected restaurants using OpenTable.
This integration could make the platform more useful by connecting restaurant discovery with the booking process.
It also places TikTok in more direct competition with established services such as Yelp and Google Maps, which already help users find restaurants through reviews, location information and search tools.
Must Eat is initially launching in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Users can access the feature through TikTok’s search bar, Local feed, restaurant pages and location links attached to videos featuring participating establishments.
The launch represents another step in TikTok’s efforts to expand beyond entertainment and social media into services that influence everyday consumer decisions, including where people choose to eat.
