Jetour is making a bold entry into the high-performance luxury SUV space with the G700, a plug-in hybrid that brings together strong performance, off-road ability and a premium interior.

The G700 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors. The combined system produces up to 904 horsepower and 1,135 Nm of torque, allowing the large SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

That is a lot of power for a vehicle built to carry passengers in comfort.

But the G700 is not designed only for speed. Jetour has also built it for difficult roads and off-road driving. It has a claimed 970 mm water-wading capability, meaning it can handle water close to one metre deep under the right conditions. Its 35-degree approach angle and 28-degree departure angle also help it climb and descend difficult terrain without the body easily hitting the ground.

The technology continues inside the cabin.

A 35.4-inch 3K display stretches across the dashboard, while the interior can feature Nappa leather, massage seats and an 18-speaker Lexicon sound system. These features give the G700 the feel of a luxury vehicle rather than a traditional rugged SUV.

The plug-in hybrid system is another important part of the G700. By combining petrol power with electric motors, Jetour is using electrification to deliver both strong performance and a different driving experience from a conventional petrol SUV.

What makes the G700 stand out is the combination of things it is trying to offer in one vehicle.

It can deliver sports-car-like acceleration, take on rough terrain and still give passengers a comfortable, technology-filled cabin.

For Jetour, the G700 also represents a move into a more premium part of the SUV market, where buyers increasingly expect power, technology, comfort and off-road capability in the same vehicle.
