Google has introduced a new tap-to-share capability for Quick Share, giving Android users a faster way to exchange contact information, photos, videos, and other files between compatible devices.

The updated feature allows users to bring two supported Android phones close together to trigger what Google describes as an instant, two-way exchange.

Users can also choose photos or videos from the Android Share Sheet before bringing the devices together to complete the transfer.

The move makes Android’s sharing experience more similar to Apple’s proximity-based NameDrop feature, which debuted with iOS 17.

Apple’s system allows users to exchange contact details and share selected content by bringing compatible devices close to each other.
Google said the updated Quick Share experience began rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer models.

Support is also planned for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, with additional Android devices expected to gain access later this year.

The new functionality is designed to simplify nearby sharing by reducing the number of steps required to transfer content, making device-to-device exchanges quicker and more convenient for Android users.
